Oyster plant, or Moses-in-the-cradle (Rhoeo spathacea), is an herb, but it’s not edible. This tropical perennial makes for a nice ornamental houseplant, or ground cover if you live in the right climate. Its bicolor lance-shaped leaves have a dark green upper surface with a purple underside. Oyster plant also has attractive pseudo flowers, called bracts, which are purple and cradle the small white — and real — blossoms.
